CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, incumbent develops, implements, and instructs programs to provide students the foundation for positive social development and network with internal programs, community agencies, and non-profit organizations to provide assistance to families with various needs. Incumbent utilizes a variety of intervention modalities including Reality, Family Systems, Cognitive, and Behavioral Therapy techniques.

Designs, facilitates, and oversees intervention services for children and families that include assessment, crisis intervention, individual counseling, group therapy, home visitation, case management, and advocacy.

2.        

Coordinates, develops, and supervises student and family based programs regarding peer mediation, mentoring, parenting, adult education, substance abuse, gang, and violence prevention methods, etc.   Monitors and evaluates program development.

Establishes and implements a system of community resources and partnerships as a support to the school community. Develops, coordinates, and provides services to students and families to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.

Identifies and assesses the contributive or causative factors involved in the problems of students due to learning, physical, social, emotional, economic, cultural, linguistic, behavioral or familial obstacles.

Solicits assets and property for the school community via grants, fundraisers, and public and private donations. Secures resources and services not currently available to students and families.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is preferred that applicant possesses the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related field;
  • Five years experience working with families and children.

Skills required, but not limited to, for this position include:

·         Understanding causative factors of social and behavioral problems associated with high-risk K-8 elementary students.

·         Knowing parenting education and guidance issues.

·         Applying intervention strategies particular to diverse, at-risk populations.

·         Assessing student/family needs in terms of academic, physical, social, economic, cultural, linguistic, emotional, behavioral or familial difficulties that impact student performance.

·         Applying counseling and crisis response theories and practices within the broader ecosystemic context.

·         Directing, facilitating, supervising, and evaluating individual/group/class prevention and intervention sessions.

·         Providing consultation to principal and teachers concerning student and family needs, strengths, and areas of concern.

·         Organizing and maintaining confidential records, social histories, and treatment plans.

·         Researching, consulting, and training teachers and administrators concerning socio-legal procedures dealing with C.P.S., domestic violence, custody issues, trauma or crisis, etc.

·         Networking with community agencies to create and coordinate resources and services.

·         Developing grants and partnerships with businesses and organizations for programs such as Adopt-A-Family, adult education, parenting, etc.

·         Recruiting and training social work interns and volunteer staff.

·         Bilingual abilities or ability to arrange for interpreter services and direct counseling services in appropriate language.

·         Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
