    CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, incumbent(s) handles the distribution, collection, inventory, maintenance, and the purchasing of books and other materials in the school library. Incumbent(s) assists teachers with the preparation of the library and works with students on special projects assigned by the teacher.

    Handles the distribution and collection of books and other materials. Checks in books, shelves books, repairs books, and weeds old and damaged books. Daily

    Works with students individually or in groups on special projects or reading assignments. Demonstrates skills and techniques in order to aid in student learning. Monitors student behavior and enforces school and classroom standards and policies. Daily

    Assists the teacher with the preparation of the library including pulling books that pertain to the needs of the teacher, setting up tables and chairs, and handing out materials. Performs clean up after activities including picking up toys and trash, washing tables and chairs and rearranging furniture. Daily

    Assists the Principal with the management of the library budget including ordering of books, periodicals, reference materials, supplies, furniture, and equipment. Researches and makes recommendations on new books to purchase and gives recommendations for improvements for the library and supplies. Weekly

    Recruits parent volunteers to assist in the library. Gives workloads to instructional assistants and volunteers assistants when they are in the library, recruits parent volunteers, and works with PTO on book fair. Weekly

    Keeps inventory and prices of books and other materials. Prints over due book notices, determines charges, and sends invoice to parents for lost or damaged books. Collects money for lost or damaged library books. Annually

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
    • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.);
    • Must receive CPR certification within thirty days of hire date.

    For school-wide Title 1 schools:
    • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired;
    • Completion of 60 College Credit Hours, Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or successfully passed an Arizona State approved paraprofessional test.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    It is preferred that applicant possess the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.
    • One year of experience working with children;
    • One year of experience working in a library.
